Fortune entered the Music Industry program at Drexel University, focusing on engineering and production. Since graduating Drexel with a Bachelor’s degree in Recording Arts and Music Production, Fortune went on to engineer at Groove Control Productions (where he was signed as a producer/songwriter), the prestigious Studio Breed, and Fancy Time Studio, where he worked on Cold Fronts’ Forever Whatever album (released on Sire Records). West placed 1st in the coveted iStandard production competition’s Philadelphia division in 2015, going on to reach the semi-finals during the national portion of the contest in Atlanta. In 2017, he won the Prism Sound Collection producer contest as well.
Currently Fortune has been workin in studio with acts ranging from the undiscovered all the way up to the great Erykah Badu. He has been scoring films and playing many concerts as well, alongside frequent collaborator rapper/singer Mason and drummer David Balcher. The trio (in which West plays both bass and his production live) have performed with notable acts, including, Curren$y, Smif-N-Wessun and Snow Tha Product.. He’s released three projects with Mason, most recently the Primordial EP. The young musician has been releasing instrumental projects independently since 2012, all leading up to his instrumental LP How Did We Get Here?, released via Abandon Building Records on all major digital outlets. Lead single “The Ghost” premiered on XLR8R.com, being among their top 10 downloads for February ‘17, and the title track was placed on the New Music Friday France and Fresh Finds: Basement playlists on Spotify. FortuneWest’s work has also been featured on DJ Booth, HOFisbetter.com, Hype Machine, Obscure Sound, Australian outlet Acid Stag, Los Angeles’ TILT Magazine, Philly’s WXPN: The Key and more. He is continuing a running release called #FW12for12 series in which he is releasing new music monthly collaborating with the likes of Chill Moody and Shawn Smith (FKA Young Savage).
